Working from home during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak
ApprenticeThis article sits within the Apprentice sectionYou can carry on with your apprenticeship if you can continue with your off-the-job training from home. This includes if you’re on furlough.
Your employer and training provider must agree that you can continue with your off-the-job training from home.
When to work from home
You may need to work from home because of any of the following reasons:
- you’re self-isolating or cannot travel
- you’re helping to look after someone who’s sick
- your employer or training provider’s facilities are closed
- you’re working in a different role
This could mean that you use digital or distance learning to continue your apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship training
Check with your training provider that you can complete your off-the-job apprenticeship training at home. Record the training you complete at home in the same way that you normally record your off-the-job training.
Get the right equipment
Contact your employer if you need IT or other equipment to help you with your work or apprenticeship training at home.
Take a break from your apprenticeship
If you’re not able to continue with your apprenticeship training, you’ll need to take a break from your apprenticeship. If you take a break for:
- less than 4 weeks, you should be able to finish your apprenticeship at the same time
- more than 4 weeks, you’ll need to change the planned end date of your apprenticeship when you return
Speak to your employer or training provider if you cannot work from home during the coronavirus outbreak. You can check the full government coronavirus guidance.
