Break in work and training between employers

CoronavirusThis article sits within the Coronavirus section

The apprenticeship funding rules allow an apprentice to have a 30-day break between leaving one employer and starting work with a new employer without this affecting their apprenticeship.

We understand that due to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), some apprentices will have not been permitted to start working for and training with their new employer on the date originally agreed.

During the coronavirus outbreak we have introduced a flexibility to the rules so that apprenticeships will continue to be funded after a break of over 30 days between employers when:

  •  the apprentice had an agreed start date with a new employer within 30 days of leaving their last employment
  • the start date had to be delayed because of the coronavirus outbreak
