In March 2025, the Government outlined a package of measures to address the large scale skills shortages in the construction sector. 

 

New foundation apprenticeships in construction

We will be introducing a foundation apprenticeship in construction to help increase the numbers of young people in the industry ahead of pursuing a more specialised or advanced apprenticeship.

Incentives for employers 
We will offer employers a financial incentive of up to £2,000 for recruiting an apprentice onto a construction foundation apprenticeship.

The package also includes incentives for FE colleges, measures to boost FE college capacity, measures to get more experienced workers from industry teaching in FE and investment in Skills Bootcamps.
