Pause or stop an apprenticeship because of coronavirus (COVID-19)
CoronavirusThis article sits within the Coronavirus sectionTraining providers can find out how to record coronavirus related breaks in learning in the ILR. You can view all coronavirus articles for the apprenticeship service.
You can only pause or stop an apprenticeship if you have one of the following types of permission in the organisation’s apprenticeship account:
- Add apprentices and view information
- Accept agreements, view information and manage PAYE schemes, organisations, apprentices and team members
Pausing an apprenticeship
If an apprentice cannot attend apprenticeship training for more than 4 weeks because of the coronavirus outbreak, you must pause their apprenticeship. This could be because:
- the training provider cannot deliver apprenticeship training
- an apprentice cannot attend work or training
When the apprentice, employer and training provider are ready to resume the apprenticeship, you can resume it in your apprenticeship service account.
Stopping an apprenticeship
Only stop the apprenticeship if the apprentice will not return to apprenticeship training. You will not be able to resume an apprenticeship in the apprenticeship service after it’s stopped.
You will be asked, when stopping an apprentice record, whether the apprentice has been made redundant. This data is being collected for internal reporting purposes and will not affect you, your apprentice or your account.
